Hyderabad Restaurant - Khandani Rajdhani, Forum Mall

Well, I guess a lot of people have been waiting for Rajdhani to open at Forum Mall as the only one till date is in Banjara hills.

For those who don't know, it claims to serve authentic rajasthani food. Well, I beg to differ, the food overall is decent and has some similarities with rajasthani food but it is definitely not authentic. Dhola ri dhani probably may be the the closest to authentic rajasthani food.

We went to rajdhani on the very first day of opening, there were some operational gliches, service delays which can be excused as it was their first day and they were probably trying to put the things in order.

Out of two starters, tikki is good. Dokla is certainly not the original - it is like idli in different shape. Sweeets (malpua, carrot halwa, basundi) are awesome. Malpua is served hot and is truly delicious. Main course was decent. I remember in earlier days Radhani used to serve different types of rotis (like bajra, jowar, missi etc.), this time few options were there but taste wise not at all upto the mark. One should definitely try kichdi at the end.

Overall, one will feel full after eating the thali and should be able to find good stuff amongst so many items. Very high calorie food will demand skipping the next meal.

Overall rating - 6 out of 10.

Hyderabad restaurant - Utsav

I wanted to visit this one ever since read about its award winning stories in newspaper.

At the entry of this restaurant, one can see praising comments / views from sachin tendulkar, vvs lakshman etc. The inside structure is good, uses sunlight properly (eco friendly ? Yes). The guests are being greeted with slow music when they eat.

We tried buffet, reasonably priced, All the indian food was quite good including rajma, dal. But one should not try any non-Indian food there. One of the few restaurants which understands difference between north indian dal and south indian sambhar.

Rating - 7 out of 10

Hyderabad restaurant - Rayalseema Ruchulu (the first one at Lakdi ka pool)

Though I have been to the one at Jubilee Hills, I always wanted to go to the first one. I understand that one has got a lot of food awards.

The best thing to order at south indian restaurants is thali - one get to taste variety. Sometimes, you may like one item so your stomach can rely on others.

Comparing taste, quality and variety is obvious when we visit a lot of such places. Food wise, there seem to be no difference in various outlets of rayalseema ruchulu. The ragi rice is the one to go after. It looks lil wierd but really tasty.

Not sure how it got so many awards, I had better thalis at spicey venue, chutneys.

Rating - 5 out of 10

Hyderabad restaurant - Shah Niwas (authentic marvari / gujrati food)

For all those people who crave for marvari / gujrati food, Shah Niwas is the place. Reaching to the place is an exercise in itself. Its on MG road, 3rd lane opposite to the police station.

Not a proper set-up that of a restaurant (ambience wise), but serves simple, tasty and authentic food. One should try different type of rotis like wheat, bajra, jowar, missi etc. Don't forget to have shrikhand, it's yummy.

Rating - 8 out of 10 (excluding ambience)

Hyderabad restaurant - Siaa, Jubilee Hills Check Post

Finally.. i visited a restaurant whose north indian food is comparable with my favourite (sahib, sindh, sultan).. probabaly better in terms of ambience..

the place is very lively.. guess.. going in daylight is better as one can get a feeling of eating at some hill top and enjoying the outside view.. the seating arrangement is quite spacious and intelligently designed..

the quality of veg north indian food is judged by paneer (indian cheese) a restaurant serves.... Siaa has some good starters made of paneer.. there is one babycorn starter also.. which is kind of different and really tasty..

i had one of the finest dal tadka and khasta roti in Siaa.. overall.. Siaa has some good variety and taste.. it was really a lip-smacking lunch experience..

Hyderabad restaurant - Rayalseema Ruchulu, Jubilee Hills

Rayalseema ruchulu is one of the oldest authentic hyderabadi restaurant in the town.. they have recenlty opened a shop in jubilee hills.. closer to me.. I had thought of visiting their khairtabad branch for quite some time.. then one of my good friend told that the ambience is not very appealing..

so finally.. when the jubilee hills outlet got open.. I thought of finally trying it..

would like to put a caveat before I start my list of negative comments... that i am pure vegetarian.. it may be a delight for non-veggies...but for veggies like me.. it was a nightware.. did not like anything but for ambience.. which I though was smart work.. have been to 3-4 more so called authentic hyderabadi outlets.. but this one fared almost at the bottom.. I opted for thali. (this is was it is known for).. that turn out to be disaster.. chapati was so dry that one can make powder out of it.. it was a very ordinary food.. interestingly the most horrible looking item (mix of rice with some powder) was the saving grace..

However,, now I would like to visit their first outlet (Khairtabad one).. as can't discount the most famous restaurant like this..

Kanpur hotel - Royal Cliff

Finally, Kanpur has got a hotel with 3-4 star standards, neat and clean and last but not the least serves good food.

It is located in the heart of the city - swaroop nagar.. so travelling to any part of the city is not a pain .. (but for the area you want to travel should have a way and a road on it)..

From my previous experience in Kanpur, this was really beating my expectations.. the hotel is only 6 months old.. so one has to wait and see will they be able to maintain similar standards..

The food is good.. it gives proper north indian feeling.. i tried a different dish called subji lababdar.. found it to be quite good.. other normal stuff (dal, paneer) are upto the satisfaction level..
